Lack of garbage containers makes Byhatti plot a dumpyard

BELGAUM: Unbearable stench emanating from heaps of uncollected garbage welcomes visitors who step into Byhatti plot in Deshpande Nagar.
As there is no garbage container in the vicinity, residents dump waste indiscriminately on the roadside. Garbage of more than 15 days are strewn around the roads in this residential area.
What adds to their woes is the apathy of the municipal corporation authorities in clearing waste regularly.The result: Residents here are forced to live in unhygienic conditions.
According to Narayan Hebbal, a resident, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation staff removed garbage containers from the layout two weeks ago, but failed to replace them. People are left with no option, but dump garbage on the roadside, he added. The problem is getting worse with each passing day. Stray pigs wandering around the garbage heap is a common scene. Theplace has become breeding ground for mosquitoes too, leaving the residents worried about possible outbreak of contagious diseases.
Another resident Usha Indrali rued that the area is not cleaned regularly. Indiscriminate dumping of garbage has aggravated the problem of pig menace. The civic workers should ensure cleanliness in the area and put the containers back, she said.
Many residents alleged that their repeated pleas to ensure cleanliness in the area have fallen on deaf ears.
